Events Type

General event

A general event type applies to most of FEMMESi events that are organized; These events are for general purpose and give an opportunity to an event to be broad and wide ranging.

About this event type

Once you apply for an approval for a standard event type, that approval will remain active for 12 months, during which you can organize four events. You’ll be the sole proprietor of the unique FEMMESi name you provide in your application. After your event, you have the option to renew your approval, or you can let it expire – releasing the event name with FEMMES and can transfer to other organizer. A record of your event will remain visible on the FEMMES website after the expiration of your approval, but you’ll need to give up domain names and other properties associated with the unique name to us for any new organizers to use. The following applies to all general events:

Naming your event

Your event should be named after the community, city, or neighbourhood the event is residing (e.g., “FEMMESiMauritius,” “FEMMESiGorgea”).

Audience

Your audience is simply the people who live in the area where you’re holding your event. But we do recommend organizers carefully curate their audience, and select a diverse group of people who can contribute meaningfully to the conversation.

University event

University events are FEMMESi events hosted at a college/university/school, and organized by current university administration staff, faculty or students. It gives universities the opportunity to share the unique innovation and ideas that their community is creating.

About this event type

A university event approval follows the same format as the general event approval, except this event is co-branded with a university name (e.g., “FEMMESiGalgotias”). This means that the event is hosted by that college or university or school, so you’ll need permission from that school to hold the event and to use the university’s name. A university approval must be held by a current student, faculty, staff member or the director of the University itself. (Sorry, former staff or alumni aren’t eligible to apply!) One approval is allocated per university. However, in special circumstances where a university has schools located in different cities, we can permit approvals for separate events. EDU events give people in educational communities an opportunity to spark discussion on the future of education, Education System of different countries and share those ideas with the global community. These FEMMESi events are not the same as university events or youth events, which have more wide-ranging content, but are events that are focused on ideas, creativity and innovation specifically on the topic of education. All the FEMMESi rules apply to an EDU event Approval. Like general FEMMESi event, you must screen a minimum of two official, pre-recorded FEMMES Talks for a half-day event, or for a longer event, 25% of the total number of talks must be official, pre-recorded FEMMES Talks. The following also applies to ED events:

We recommend that organizers carefully curate their audience, and select a group of people who can contribute meaningfully to the conversation. (Especially for an event with a specific topic of focus, like education.)

W&M event

W&M events are often small weekly or monthly events that keeps a FEMMESi community engaged between regular FEMMESi events. It’s a unique kind of gathering that FEMMESi organizers hold which allows the conversation to continue, in person.

About this event type

W&M events are open to FEMMESi organizers of general, university, youth and internal events. In other words, you need to have one of these specific FEMMESi event approvals in order to apply for a W&M event license. At a FEMMESi W&M, attendees watch FEMMES Talks, sometimes host a few speakers (though it’s not required) and have informal discussions, counselling sessions about the talks they witnessed. W&M re-engage your community and team during the time between your main FEMMESi events, and spark discussion on issues of interest to your local community. All T FEMMESi rules apply to a W&M license, but with a few exceptions: W&M can only feature live speakers if you have completed a FEMMESi event with live speakers. If you have not, your W&M event can only feature TED Talk videos. A minimum of five W&M events must be held per W&M approval.

Five reasons why you’ll love FEMMESi W&M

The discussion and counselling: A critical element of salon is lively discussions, allowing attendees to actively participate in the event. With much smaller audiences than a general FEMMESi event, W&M bring attendees together in more intimate spaces, and with more chances to get know and exchange ideas and network as with each other. The single subject: Having the ability to focus on only one subject creates focused audience and atmosphere. The choice of format: W&M events range anywhere from dinner party settings to mini standard FEMMESi events, and anything in between. It’s up to organizers to decide what size and format is best for their community. Frequency: W&M are recurring events that offer organizers an exciting way to stay engaged with their communities. W&M can happen between larger general events, providing a regular touch point for you and your community. The options: Because emphasis is on discussion and counselling in W&M, you don’t need to find new speakers; you can discuss FEMMES and FEMMESi talks that already exist. You also have the option to invite live speakers to your event, too. You have options!

Things to know about FEMMESi W&M

Naming your event

The naming convention for a FEMMESi W&M Event means just adding “W&M” to the end of your FEMMESi event name (e.g., “FEMMESiNYUW&M”).

Audience

A W&M event audience can be the same people who have attended your previous FEMMESi event(s), and/or other people within your community. It’s up to you!

Size

W&M are intended for smaller groups, which spark more productive discussions, Counselling and networking. Your W&M event should not be similar in scale to your general event – the W&M events should be significantly smaller. The rules regarding attendee limits apply here too. All events are limited to 100 attendees unless the organizer has attended an official FEMMES Conference.

Theme

Unlike other FEMMESi events, W&M events may focus on a single subject area, rather than have a broader theme. But each W&M event in your series must explore a different subject. (In other words, you can’t organize multiple W&M around the same subject.) The themes should not overlap with separate event types, such as FEMMESiUniverstity or FEMMESiYouth – these have separate approvals.

Duration

Unlike other FEMMESi events, W&M are shorter. The entire event should be no more than a half day.

Pricing

If you are just showing talks, you may charge a nominal fee to cover your expenses. If you have live speakers, you may charge up to $100 USD.

FEMMESiLive

FEMMESiLive is an approval for FEMMESi events centered around the live webcast of an official FEMMES Conference. Here, the world becomes FEMMES’s audience. If you are interested in organizing a FEMMESiLive 2019 event, please read through the guidelines below before applying for an approval.

About this event type

The idea for FEMMESiLive grew out of a question we were asking ourselves here at FEMMES: What would happen if we made the FEMMES Conference more open, more global, more broad and wide and its impact more immediate? What if we could ignite communities around the world to engage with – and build on – the FEMMES Conference experience while it happened live? A FEMMESiLive approval is given to organizers who host events in their community to watch the official FEMMES Conference live. FEMMESiLive events are a great choice for first-time organizers, because all the programming is provided by FEMMES, but you also have the option to feature live speakers and performers. All FEMMESi rules apply to a FEMMESiLive license, but with some exceptions. For example, if you are only hosting a viewing party of the FEMMES Conference, you may invite more than 250 attendees. If you’re having live, local speakers at your event, only individuals who have attended an official FEMMES conference in person may organize an event with more than 250 attendees. The following also applies to FEMMESiLive events:

Naming your event

If this is your first approval, your FEMMESiLive event name will follow this convention: a name beginning with “FEMMESi,” followed by the name of your city, school, neighbourhood or organization, followed by the word “Live.” Organizers who already have a general approval should use their existing event’s name as the basis for your FEMMESiLive event’s name, but you may not have to add, “Live” at the end of their event name. (e.g., the owner of FEMMESiDelhiUniversity could register the name either as “FEMMESiDelhiUniversity” or “FEMMESiDelhiUniversityLive.”)

Duration

FEMMESiLive events are held during the FEMMES Conference, or during a scheduled period of time at a later date. In 2019, FEMMESiLive may be held any time after 22nd February, and before 10 March, 2019. You have the choice to screen talks from any of the FEMMES sessions. Because of this flexible window, you may organize a FEMMESiLive event and still attend either the FEMMES Conference or FEMMES Fest.

Audience

Your audience is simply the people from the area or community where you’re holding your FEMMESiLive event. Some may be previous attendees from another FEMMESi event you organized. Either way, we always recommend that organizers carefully curate their audience, and select a diverse group of people who can contribute meaningfully to the conversation.

Size

If you are only hosting a viewing party of the FEMMES Conference, you may invite more than 250 attendees. If you’re having live, local speakers at your event, only individuals who have attended an official FEMMES conference in person may organize an event with more than 250 attendees.

Theme

The focus of your FEMMESiLive event is chosen by the FEMMES Conference, since that will be the content you’re screening! If you invite live speakers, you’ll want to feature a diversity of people from across several disciplines, but primarily from the local community you’re serving.

Pricing

You may charge up to $100 USD per ticket to attendees to cover your expenses.
